The Government of Goa on September 24, 2026, issued the Goa Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2026 to further amend the Goa Private Universities Act, 2020.
The following amendments have been stated:
• In Section 2 of the Goa Private Universities Act, 2020 (Goa Act 4 of 2020) after Clause (xv), the following clause shall be inserted, namely:—
“(xva). “Schedule” means the Schedule to this Act;”
• In Section 7 of the principal Act, the existing provision thereof shall be numbered as sub-section (1) and after sub-section (1) as so numbered, the following sub-section shall be inserted, namely:—
“(2) Upon issuance of a notification under sub-section (1), the Government may, by a notification in the Official Gazette, insert necessary entries in the Schedule hereto and may, for that purpose, suitably amend the Schedule by the said notification, and thereupon the entries therein shall stand amended accordingly.”
• In Section 18 of the principal Act, in sub-section (1), for the expression “from a panel of three persons recommended by the Governing Body”, the expression “in accordance with the Regulations of University Grants Commission, notified from time to time” shall be substituted.
• In Section 19 of the principal Act, in sub-section (1), for the expression “shall be appointed by”, the expression “shall be appointed by the Executive Council on the recommendation of” shall be substituted.
• Section 50 of the principal Act shall be omitted.
